Kaumātua & Kuia
This initiative provides a rōpū to help inform and influence the direction of future health research in Aotearoa, ensuring the knowledge, experiences and perspectives of kaumātua and kuia are recognised and valued.
The rōpū creates a safe, respectful and culturally appropriate forum where kaumātua and kuia can share their whakaaro, provide feedback and contribute to kōrero on specific areas of health research. Through these conversations, researchers can gain a deeper understanding of the health priorities, needs and aspirations that are important to Māori whānau and communities.
Central to this initiative is ensuring Māori voices are heard and reflected within health research. By providing researchers and others with an appropriate engagement pathway to connect with kaumātua and kuia, the rōpū supports meaningful relationships and helps ensure future research is better informed by the communities it seeks to serve.
