The Hauora and Rangahau Expo is a one-to-two-day community event that brings together hauora, rangahau and technology through an interactive, hands-on learning experience.
Designed as an ongoing annual event grounded in whanaungatanga, the Expo creates a welcoming space for whānau and communities to connect directly with researchers, explore innovative health technologies, ask questions, and discover how rangahau is being used to support and advance the health and wellbeing of our people.
Our researchers are passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise in ways that are accessible, engaging and meaningful. Through interactive demonstrations and activities, whānau have the opportunity to experience a range of health technologies currently being developed and learn more about the research behind them.
As part of our commitment to supporting community hauora, the Expo also provides free vision and hearing services, helping make valuable health checks more accessible to whānau.
At its heart, the Hauora and Rangahau Expo is about connection, learning and collective wellbeing—creating opportunities for researchers and communities to come together, share mātauranga, build relationships, and explore how innovation can contribute to healthier futures for our people.
FAQ
How can I attend?
IUE releases an annual event schedule at the beginning of each year, outlining upcoming Kura Hauora Days, workshops, the Southern Series, Wānanga and other events, with registration links provided where required.

Criteria to Attend
To attend an IUE Kura Hauora Expo Day, researchers are required to bring an up-to-date Kaupapa Māori poster and an interactive activity for tauira to engage with.
You are welcome to reuse a poster from a previous Kura Hauora Day or Kairangahau Wānanga, provided the information is still current. IUE also provides Kaupapa Māori poster templates, available to download below, to support the culturally safe sharing of your rangahau.
Your interactive activity can be as creative as you like! Previous activities have included spinning wheels, virtual reality, specialised glasses, holograms, games and hands-on demonstrations. It doesn’t need to be complicated — the aim is to give tauira a fun and meaningful way to interact with your mahi.
Stuck for ideas? The IUE team is happy to support you in developing an interactive activity that works for your kaupapa.
