Marae Based Research Development

This initiative was developed through an equity-focused approach to support Tangata Tiriti kairangahau and partners in strengthening their engagement and relationships with Māori communities. It provides a pathway for participants to better understand their responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how these responsibilities can be reflected meaningfully within their mahi.

At the heart of this initiative is the understanding that, whether Tangata Whenua or Tangata Tiriti, all tangata of Aotearoa require approaches that recognise and respond to inequity. Te Tiriti provides a foundation for working together while recognising the unique status, rights and aspirations of Tangata Whenua.

The initiative also acknowledges the experiences of other communities who face inequities alongside Tangata Whenua. Through connection, shared learning and meaningful engagement, it aims to strengthen equitable practice and support kairangahau and partners to contribute to positive change across Aotearoa.
