Whakawhanaungatanga

Whakawhanaungatanga
IUE has an onsite marae presence at Papakura Marae, providing a unique opportunity for kairangahau, researchers, clinicians, students and non-clinical Tangata Tiriti to share and engage within this space.
This initiative focuses on whakawhanaungatanga and meaningful relationship building, guided by the Kaupapa Māori principle of Ata—recognising the importance of taking time and care to establish trusted, respectful and long-term relationships. We understand that meaningful relationships do not happen automatically; they require time, commitment and opportunities to connect.
Through this initiative, Tangata Tiriti are provided with the opportunity to undertake their business-as-usual mahi from the marae, allowing participants to experience tikanga and kawa as part of an everyday environment rather than as something separate from their professional practice.
By spending time within the marae environment, participants can strengthen their understanding of Te Ao Māori, tikanga and kawa, build genuine relationships, and explore how these experiences can be meaningfully embedded into their practice and the wider context of their mahi.
